Awara (あわら市 Awara-shi) is a city located in Fukui Prefecture, Japan.
As of October 1, 2005, the city has an estimated population of 31,080 and the population density of 265.66 persons per km². The total area is 116.99 km².
The modern city of Awara was established on March 1, 2004, from the merger of the former town of Awara, absorbing the town of Kanazu (both from Sakai District).
Awara is a city famous for its onsen. There are many in and around the city where one can go to have a bath and relax in the natural hotwater springs.
