Avinash Sachdev (Hindi: अविनाश सचदेव[1]) is a popular Indian television actor,[2][3] mostly known for the role of Dev on the Hindi soap opera, Chotti Bahu season 1 & 2.[4] Currently, he is playing the lead character of Shlok Agnihotri in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?...Ek Baar Phir on Star Plus, opposite Shrenu Parikh.[5]
Early life and family
Born in Mumbai, brought up in Vadodara,Gujarat, Sachdev, the only child of Hindu parents, was intended at first for a police career.[6][7] As he prepared for the Indian Administrative Service exams, he participated in several male beauty pageants. Sachdev moved to Mumbai to pursue his modelling career after winning titles like Mr Baroda, Mr University, and Mr Gujarat, all in the year 2004-2006.[8][9]
In 2012, Sachdev ventured into business opening several fashion stores in Mumbai.[10]
Acting career
He started his career as an assistant director.[11] Later, he picked up acting to learn more about the skills and industry .[11] His first notable acting role was in a TVS Scooty commercial with film actress Preity Zinta.[12] In 2006, Sachdev secured his first television role in the soap opera Karam Apna Apna. He aspires to become a film director. [11] He also has a passion for film producing.[3]
2008 - 12: Chotti Bahu
Chotti Bahu was his fourth television role. His portrayal of character, Dev in Chotti Bahu made him one of the most well-known and admired actors of Indian television. Near the end of the serial's first season, Sachdev's character, Dev, was thrown from a cliff to his death, but the popular character was revived for a second season with a new plot.[13] This show not only created history by extending the prime time slot to early prime time 7:30 pm but it also delivered numbers which beat some of the best shows across GEC's in the prime time.[14][15]
2013–present: Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?...Ek Baar Phir
Sachdev's acting skills were praised in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?...Ek Baar Phir,[16] and it has also earned him great acclaim, a wider fan base.[3] The show has set a trend of airing soap operas in the 6:00pm time slot as it had shown marginal increase in viewership in the particular time slot .[17][18][19] According to Sachdev his character Shlok Agnihotry is the best character he has played till date.[3]
