In October 2012, Australia was announced by the International Rugby Board as one of the six "core teams" that would compete in all four rounds of the inaugural IRB Women's Sevens World Series in 2012–13.[1] Their appearance in the quarterfinals of the 2013 World Cup Sevens assured that they remained a core team for 2013–14.
