Australia's First Nations Political Party (AFNPP) is an Australian political party. The party was registered on 6 January 2011 with the Australian Electoral Commission.[5] The party was founded by Maurie Japarta Ryan a former independent candidate and the grandson of Aboriginal Australian activist Vincent Lingiari.[4] In November 2013, the Australian Electoral Commission approved the party's application to change its name from "Australian First Nations Political Party" to "Australia's First Nations Political Party".[6]
The policies of the party focus on issues such as Northern Territory statehood [4] and Aboriginal sovereignty.[3]
The party ran two candidates for the Senate in the 2013 federal election, receiving 1.44 percent of the Senate vote in the Northern Territory.[7]
