Austin Mambu Freeman, Jr. (born May 6, 1989) is an American professional basketball player who plays for Virtus Roma of the Lega Basket Serie A. He played college basketball at Georgetown University.

High school & College

Raised in Mitchellville, Maryland, Freeman attended DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland.[1] During his junior year at Georgetown, Freeman was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.[2] Prior to the 2010–11 season, Freeman was named the pre-season Big East Conference Player of the Year. Despite averaging 17.6 points per game, Freeman lost the post-season Big East Conference Player of the Year award to Notre Dame's Ben Hansbrough.[3]

Professional

Freeman went undrafted in the 2011 NBA draft. In July 2011, he signed with Fulgor Libertas Forlì of Italy for the 2011–12 season.[4] In March 2012, he was released by Forlì.[5]

He joined the New Orleans Hornets for the 2012 NBA Summer League. In August 2012, he signed with Hapoel Eilat of Israel.[6] In January 2013, he left Hapoel and signed with Maccabi Ashdod.[7]

He joined the Indiana Pacers for the 2013 NBA Summer League. He later re-signed with Maccabi Ashdod. In mid-November 2013, he left Israel after 6 games. On November 27, 2013, he was acquired by the Iowa Energy.[8]

On June 27, 2014, he signed a two-year deal with Orlandina Basket.[9] On February 27, 2015, he left Orlandina and signed with Virtus Roma for the rest of the season.[10][11]
