Don Aurelio Ortega y Placeres known as "El Grande" to distinguish him from his equally renown son (Don Aurelio Ortega Castañeda), was Director of the school San Luis Gonzaga in Orizaba, Veracruz, Mexico. [1] He is the grandfather of the renown Mexican musician and artist Maestro Armando Ortega.
Early life
Aurelio Ortega y Placeres was a brilliant, very cultured educated and generous man. He was born on the 27th of April 1865 in Orizaba, Veracruz.
Career
He was a brilliant, very cultured and educated man. He was a writer, educator and the Director of the primary school San Luis Gonzaga located on the current "Calle Real.".[2] In 1904 he annexed the first school of Artes y Oficios "Teodoro A Dehesa." He was also the owner of the famous stationary company "El Lápiz Rojo." [3]
Personal life
Don Aurelio Ortega y Placeres married Srita. María Castañeda (1870–1936) at the end of the 19th century. They had 13 children (Domingo, Beatriz, Efraín, Aurelio, Raúl, María, Esther, Roberto, Amparo, Josefina, María Teresa, Martha and Guillermo).
