Augusto Lamela da Silva (born 6 February 1939) is a former Portuguese footballer who played as a defender, bul could also operate as a midfielder.
Over the course of 9 seasons, Silva amassed Primeira Liga totals of 73 games and eleven goals.
Club career
Born in Barcelos, Portugal, he moved at young age to Guimarães to learn the job of metalworker for a Textile industry, beloging to the President of Vitória S.C.. While at Vitória he suffered two serious injuries to his meniscus, but recovered, debuting for Vitória in 1958 at Estádio da Luz. He was signed by S.L. Benfica in 1962, in exchange of four players, two on loan, and two permanently.[1][2]
After three season's playing fewer than 10 matches, in 1965–66, he played 17 league games, his most at Benfica. In January 1967, in a tour to Santiago, he suffered a cerebrovascular accident, that left him permanently incapable of ever playing football, affecting his right-eye, his speech and his motor skills. Coach Fernando Riera remained with him till he recovered enough to return to Portugal in 17 February 1967. He then worked as a doorman, or managerial positions for Benfica. [3]

Personal life
Silva lost a daughter and a son to Polio in a seven month span in 1961.[3]
