Ats Purje (born 3 August 1985 in Tallinn) is an Estonian professional footballer, who plays in Nõmme Kalju. He plays the position of winger or striker. He is also a member of the Estonia national football team.
Club career
FC Levadia Tallinn
In 2003, at the age of 17, Purje started his professional career with FC Levadia Maardu (now FC Levadia Tallinn), one of the biggest clubs in Estonia. In 2007 he was relegated to Levadia Tallinn's reserve team, after refusing to sign a contract extension with the club.
FC Inter Turku
On 27 December 2007, he signed a 2-year contract with Finnish Veikkausliiga club FC Inter Turku.[2][3] On 9 February 2008, Purje scored his first goal in his first game for FC Inter Turku against JK Tallinna Kalev in a friendly match.[4] He scored his first Veikkausliiga goal also in his first Veikkausliiga match on 2`7 April 2008, in a 3–1 victory against RoPS.[5]
AEP Paphos FC
On 1 June 2010, he signed a 1-year deal with Cypriot team AEP Paphos FC, with an option to extend it by another year.[6] He made league debut on 29 August, where he scored the team's only goal.[7]
Kuopion Palloseura
Purje joined Kuopion Palloseura in 2012. He was the team's top goalscorer in 2012 and 2014 seasons.
Nõmme Kalju
Purje joined Nõmme Kalju in 2015 after breakdowns in contract negotiations with Kuopion Palloseura. His contract was for 3 seasons. He scored his first goal on his debut on the 3rd minute in a friendly match against FK Ventspils.
International career
For Estonia national football team, Purje is capped 46 times, scoring 5 goals. He made his national team debut on 11 October 2006 against Russia in a UEFA Euro 2008 qualification.[8] He scored his first goal on 20 August 2008 against Malta in a friendly match.[9]
