Atlee is an Indian film director who works in Tamil cinema. Recognized for his directional debut Raja Rani produced by Fox Star Studios, for which he was awarded the Best Debut Director Vijay Award. He is also well known for being the assistant director under director Shankar for two of his films, Enthiran and Nanban,
Early life
Atlee was born on 21 September 1986 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu to Vijay Kumar and Kalaiarasi. He had done Visual communication from Sathyabama University but not completed the course fully, before entering film industry.
Career
Atlee began his career as an assistant director in Enthiran under director Shankar and he continued to work with him in his next project Nanban which was a remake of 3 idiots. In 2013, he made his directional debut through Raja Rani. The movie was produced by Fox Star Studios and ace director AR Murugadoss. It was a multi-starrer Rom-com featuring Arya, Jai, Nayantara, Nazriya Nazim and veteran actor Sathyaraj. He was appreciated for pulling off stellar ensemble cast successfully in his very first film. Raja Rani eventually emerged as a huge success after earning over 500 million from the South Indian box office[1] within four weeks. Later Telugu dubbed version of Raja Rani ran for 75 days at AP Box office.
