Assumption Catholic School (known as Assumption, Assumption Catholic, or ACS) is a co-ed Catholic school. It serves Pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. Assumption is located at 801 Roselane St. in Houston, Texas. Assumption is administered by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.
Assumption is made of two school buildings Mendel Hall and Dominic Hall. Mendel hall holds the middle school, grades 6th through 8th, while Dominic Hall holds Pre-K 3 through 5th grades.
History
Assumption was originally Seton Catholic Junior High. Seton Catholic was a middle school whose sister school was St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School, an elementary school. In September 2008, Hurricane Ike hit Houston, Texas. St. Charles received major flood damage from the hurricane, and the school building would take months to repair. Seton allowed St. Charles to continue their school year in Mendel Hall, while the junior high learned in Dominic Hall. The following year, the two schools were renamed to Assumption Catholic School. The school also accepted all Holy Name Catholic School students after their school closed in May 2009.
Philosophy
In August 2009, after the Seton website deleted its domain name and bought the Assumption domain name (), the school's philosophy was posted on th website:
The philosophy of Assumption Catholic School is to create a community of faith and learning in which students can develop spiritually and intellectually. Our role as Catholic educators is to work in cooperation with the family and community to develop fully the potential of each individual student in a wholesome learning environment. Assumption provides a comprehensive curriculum combining traditional academic subjects, formal religious instruction, a wide range of ancillary programs, and opportunities for altruistic service in the community. Genuine effort is made to assure each student’s progress, to build self-confidence, and to create a healthy self-image while growing in maturity and responsibility.
Student body
Assumption teaches about 300 students.
Notable alumni
- Gary Kubiak - Former Denver Broncos quarterback and current head coach of the Houston Texans[1]
