Asif Nazrul (born 12 January 1966) is a Bangladeshi researcher, columnist and civil society activist. He is currently a Professor of Law at the University of Dhaka.[1]
Education
Nazrul completed his PhD from SOAS, University of London in 1998 and post doctoral fellowship later from Environmental Law Center, Bonn, Germany.
Career
Nazrul is a constitutional expert and television personality. He is also a newspaper columnist for Prothom Alo and The Daily Star.[2] Before joining Dhaka University in 1991, he used to work at Bichitra, a newsweekly of that time. He is now well known as a political commentator and thus has been interviewed by a host of national and international media including the BBC, CNN and Al Jazeera.
Personal life
In December 2013 Asif Nazrul married Shila Ahmed, the daughter of writer Humayun Ahmed.[3] His second wife was actress Rokeya Prachy and his first marriage to an expat only lasted a short period of time.
Nazrul received a telephoned death threat in May, 2013, which was thought to relate to his criticisms of the government.[4]
Nazrul is an Executive Bureau member of the South Asians for Human Rights, a regional human rights organization. He is also involved with other national and international organizations.[1]
