Asif Muhammad Khan is a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Okhla seat in New Delhi. He is aligned with the Congress Party. Khan won the Okhla seat (which includes the Batla House area) in 2009 bye election, riding on the wave of the Batla House encounter.[1]

Career and party switch

Khan initially won his seat to the Legislative Assembly as a candidate on the Rashtriya Janata Dal ticket. He later switched to the Congress Party.[1] In the previous election, he had appealed to voters, saying ‘your every vote in my favour will be an approval of the fact the Batla House encounter was fake.’ As a result, Khan won and the Congress Party lost the seat. Just after being declared an MLA, Khan went to the graves of Atif and Sjid (who were killed in the Batla House encounter) to recite the Fatiha.Controversial Figure as he was accused of supporting Builders allowing them to build illegally and Hence That Section of Builders tend to Vote for him.[2]
