Asianet Movies is the new 24-hour Malayalam TV channel from the Asianet Communications Limited launched on July 15, 2012. It is the first Malayalam satellite TV channel for movies.[3][4] The channel started airing Tamil and Hindi movies on weekends as the parent Star Group owns the rights of other languages films as well .A channel dedicated to movies in Malayalam launched very late when comparing to other southern languages even though most of the keralites like to watch their favorite movies in television .Soon after its launch Sun TV also launched its Movie Channel by changing its music channel Kiran Tv only for Movies.
Thiruvananthapuram based, Asianet Communications Limited (ACL) is owned by STAR India[1] The footprint of the free-to-air channel which started test run on 1 July 2012 includes India, Gulf and other countries in the region. In Kerala, the channel is available through all major cable TV operators including ACV and KeralaVision as well as on major DTH platforms.Asianet Movies will telecast not only Malayalam movies but also super hit movies from Tamil and Hindi.
The inaugural film of the channel is to be Spanish Masala (2012), directed by Lal Jose, starring Dileep, Daniela Zacherl, Kunchacko Boban and Biju Menon in the lead roles.[3]
