Ashley Carty (born 17 July 1995) is a 19-year-old amateur snooker player based in Thurcroft, Rotherham. He is the 2014 English Under-21 champion.[1]
Career
Carty almost earned a spot on the snooker tour in May 2013, but he lost 4–3 to Fraser Patrick in the final round of Qualifying School.[3] It was a similar story a year later as he was knocked out at the same stage this time 4–2 to Michael Georgiou.[4]
He made his debut at the venue stage of a ranking event at the 2014 UK Championship, but lost 6–1 to Barry Hawkins in the first round.[5] Carty recorded 5–2 wins over both Robert Milkins and James Cahill to qualify for the German Masters, where Martin Gould defeated him 5–3.[5] His second last 32 run in a ranking event came at the Welsh Open courtesy of victories against Michael Holt and Alfie Burden.[6] Carty lost out 4–2 to world number 11 Marco Fu.[7] Fu was also the victor when the two met in the opening round of the China Open, whitewashing Carty 5–0.[5]
Personal life
Carty combines playing snooker with his job as a sports coach.[6]
