Asgeir
Asgeir is a common given name in many Nordic countries. In Norwegian, it is written Asgeir, whereas in Icelandic, it is written with an accented "Á" as Ásgeir. The Danish equivalent given name is Asger. Variants in Danish include Eske, Esge, Asgar and Asker
Origin
"As" in Nordic languages means "god" and "Geirr" is the "spear", making Asgeir the God's spear or Spear of God(s).
The name originates from the Viking Age, but had phased out gradually and was very rarely used. It was revived during the Nordic renaissance in the 19th century and has become a very common name once again.
