Artists for Obama

Artist for Obama was a series of ten limited edition art prints created and donated by various artist in support of the United States President Barack Obama Democratic primary campaign, and 2008 presidential campaign. The prints were official campaign products of the Obama for President campaign, and were sold directly from the Obama for president website, all proceeds were considered campaign contributions.[1]

The 2008 Prints

The first Artist for Obama print was released in January 2008, and was created by Shepard Fairey and titled "Change" (in the style of his Obama "Hope" poster). It was a limited edition of 5000; it retailed for $70.

"Progress", by Scott Hansen, was the second print released in the Artist for Obama series. It was released in May 2008 and was a limited edition of 5000, it retailed for $70..[2] The print sold out within a couple days

"Yes We Can", by Antar Dayal, was the third print in the series, it was a limited edition of 5000, and retailed for $70.

"Sea to Shining Sea" by Lou Stoval, was released in October 2008, it was a limited edition of 100, and retailed for $1000.

"Hope" by famed pop artist Robert Indiana, was released in October 2008. It was a limited edition of 150, and retailed for $2500.

"Possible", by Jonathan Hoefler, was released in October 2008, it was a limited edition of 5000, and sold for $70.

"Words of Change", by Gui Borchert, was released in October 2008, it was a limited edition of 5000 and retailed for $70. The poster contains 20,000 words spoken by Obama during the campaign that are arranged in a way that create a portrait of Obama.

"Voz Unida", by Rafael López, was released in October 2008, it was a limited edition of 1000, and retailed for $60.

"Obama 08", by Lance Wyman, was released in October 2008, it was a limited edition of 5000 and retailed for $60.

The final Artist for Obama print was released just days before the 2008 presidential election, it was a limited edition print of 5000 by Shepard Fairey, titled "Vote" the print sold out within hours.

Inuaguration Print

In January 2009 the Obama inaugural committee released a print produced by Shepard Fairey on behalf of Obama's inauguration. 10,000 prints were produced and the first 1,000 are numbered and signed by Fairey. The signed and numbered prints were sold by the Obama Inaugural Committee for $500, while the unsigned and unnumbered prints were sold for $100.

Reselling of the prints

Many of the Artist for Obama prints were bought by investors who bought multiple copies of each poster. After the prints sold out, they then subsequently resold the prints usually over ebay at a several hundred percent profit.[3] Immediately after Barack Obama won the 2008 presidential election prices for the prints skyrocketed. The prices have since decreased and stabilized.
