Yachmennikov, Artem Nikolayevich ( 25 February 1983) is a ballet artist, soloist and premier at the leading theatres of the world Bolshoi Theatre, Mariinsky Theatre and more.

Biography

Artem started dancing at the age of 6 years old with the Russian folk dances in a choreographic ensemble "Mozaika" in Saint-Petersburg. Then in 1993, at the age of 10 years he passed a 3-tours exam to the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. Artem had been always known as a very hardworking student, his main teachers at the Academy were L.Melnikova, P.Silkin [1] and A.Garbuz.[2]

Artem graduated with the highest marks at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet in Saint-Petersburg, in 2001 and immediately has been invited in the troupe at the Mariinsky Theatre . His teacher at the time was Rejepmyrat Abdyyew. Already at 18 years old Artem debuted in the ballet Don Quixote (ballet) as Espada. During those years Artem had many different solo parts in the ballet repertoire: Steptext (William Forsythe),[3] Le Corsaire (Birbanto) [4] and more.

In the 2006 Artem accepted the invitation of the Dutch National Ballet and left to Amsterdam to perform there as a principal dancer. His teacher was Rinat Gizatulin,[5] Guillaume Graffin [6] but also an important meeting happened at that time. A famous Russian ballerina, a true ballet legend Natalia Makarova came to the Dutch National Ballet for the rehearsals with its dancers. And once seen Artem's rehearsal in the ballet La Bayadère in the leading part - Solor, recommended him as soloist for this ballet. Artem debuted successfully with such a part and became a soloist of the Theatre for the next two years. Artem performed in all the leading parts of such a repertoire as La Bayadere (Solor), La Sylphide (James), The Sleeping Beauty (Prince Desire), Romeo and Juliet (Romeo), Coppelia (Franz), Sarcasmen,[7] Adagio Hammerklavier (Hans Van Manen), Black Cake (Hans Van Manen) and more.

In 2008 Artem comes back in Russia. And from the 2008 until 2011 Artem performed as the first Soloist at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Russia. His teacher during those times was an honored Artist of Russia,Boris Akimov.[8] More classical and modern ballets were run successfully: Les Sylphides (Poet), Simphony in C (George Balanchine), Serenade (George Balanchine), Russian Seasons (Alexei Ratmansky).

In 2009 Artem participated in an Korea International Ballet Competition,[9] winning a Silver medal. Also during that period he performed as a guest-principal dancer with the ballet Swan Lake (Prince Siegfried) in Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre. Artem participated in many Gala-Concerts in Europe, Ukraine, China, South America and Japan.

In 2010 Artem accepted the invitation from San Francisco Ballet,[10] he performed there as a principal dancer from 2010 until 2011. Some more ballets from his repertoire were shown to the audience: Giselle (Albrecht),[11] Nutcracker (Prince, Snow King) by Helgi Tomasson,[12] Simphony in C (George Balanchine). Unfortunately his career interrupted because of a serious trauma on his ankle while rehearsing a new ballet and Artem had to made a few surgeries before get back on the stage.

After his return to performances at that time he danced as a quest artist in many theatres around the world, he collaborated with the Charity Fond of Maris Liepa,[13] leaded by Andris Liepa and performed in a world tour with his project "Russian Seasons", dancing in "Scheherazade" (Golden Slave),[14] Cleopatra/Ida Rubinstein (Robert de Montesquiou) [15] choreographed by Patrick de Bana, The Firebird (Ivan-Tsarevich).[16] Artem was invited to perform at the opening-Premier of the Primorsky Theatre of ballet and opera in Vladivostok and an author's ballet "14 Simphony" [17] was choreographed by A. Akhmetov especially for his personality.

Through the years of his career Artem had been working with such a choreographers as Natalia Makarova, Hans van Manen, Rudi van Dantzig, John Neumeier, Peter Wright,[18] Alexei Ratmansky, William Forsythe, Patrick de Bana [19] and Francesco Ventriglia. His partners were Svetlana Zakharova, Ilze Liepa, Sofiane Sylve, Yuanyuan Tan, Igone de Jongh, Larissa Lezhnina, Maria Alexandrova, Maria Abashova and other famous ballerinas.

In 2014 Artem performed on the Italian TV in the program "Ballando Con Le Stelle" "Ballando con le stelle". of Milly Carlucci on RAI UNO on the song of the famous Italian singer, Gigi D'Alessio.
