Arncliffe railway station is located on the Sydney Trains Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line in the southern Sydney suburb of Arncliffe. It consists of two island platforms with access via an overhead concourse and booking office at the southern end. There is no access for wheel chair bound persons.
History
Arncliffe station opened with the railway on 15 October 1884 and comprised two side platforms. The substantial station building on platforms 1 and 2 was the original entrance to the station and faced the street on the western side. In 1906, the citybound track was moved to the western side of the building and the southbound track replaced the former citybound track. The former southbound platform was disused until the line was quadruplicated in 1923 whereby the former southbound platform became an island (present platforms 3 and 4) with tracks on either side. A tunnel of 60.3m length existed to the south of the station, but was opened out and a bridge to carry Forest Road built in 1923.[1]
Platforms and services
Trains generally use platforms 1 and 2 during weekday peak hours, and 3 and 4 at other times. From Sunday 20 October 2013, on weekdays the station is served by two trains per hour in each direction for most of the day, with additional trains provided during peak hours; on weekends the station is served by two trains per hour in each direction for most of the day.
