Arkadelphia is an unincorporated community located in far southern Cullman County, Alabama, United States. It is situated just a few miles southwest of the town of Colony.
History
Arkadelphia was settled in the 19th century, with a post office opening in 1854. The town's namesake is disputed. Some believe Arkadelphia was the name of the wife of the first postmaster John A. Donaldson. Some believe it is a combination of "Ark-", the name of an early settlement in nearby Winston County, and "-adelphia", a pseudo-Greek combination meaning "brother-place," likely taken from Philadelphia.[2] Despite having the same name as Arkadelphia, Arkansas, the two towns are otherwise unrelated.
Arkadelphia is located on Alabama Highway 91. It has two businesses, Swans Grocery and Centurion Poultry's CPI-SouthCentral Hatchery.
