Argo Bromo Anggrek is an executive argo train operated by PT Kereta Api in the island of Java in Indonesia that connects Gambir Station in Jakarta with Pasar Turi Station in Surabaya. Argo Bromo Anggrek is the only train with a special coach with Bogie K9 and the pride of Operating Area VIII Surabaya (Daops VIII. This train travel about 725 km for 9 hours. Argo Bromo Anggrek bring 5-7 executive coach and during the journey this train only stops in Cirebon, Semarang Tawang, Pekalongan.
Operation
Argo Bromo Anggrek was firstly launched on September 24th, 1997. This product is the development from Argo Bromo JS-950 which was inaugurated by the Indonesian President at that moment, Soeharto, on July 3rd, 1995 to celebrate the Indonesian National Technology Day on August 12th, 1995. In progress uptill present, this train only stops in Cirebon, Pekalongan, and Semarang. From Gambir Station, this train departs at 09:30 and 21:30 and arrives at Pasar Turi Station at 18:30 and 06:30. From Pasar Turi Station, Surabaya, this train departs at 08:15 and 19:45 and arrives in Gambir Station, Jakarta, at 17:15 and 04:39.
Etymology
Argo Bromo was taken from a mountain named Mount Bromo, located in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, East Java. Mount Bromo which has a height of 2,392 m is in addition to storing the meaning of cultural and religious rituals also presents the beauty of the crater and the natural beauty that makes the Mount Bromo became very popular and became one of the major tourist destinations of domestic tourists and foreign tourists. The term Orchid is used to indicate the derivative brand of products before, so that the exterior color of the train is adjusted with a mixture of an Orchid.
Facility
Argo Bromo Anggrek provide entertainment facilities during the journey in the form of an audio/video (Show On Rail). Passenger can also order food and drinks according to the menu and can be enjoyed either in their respective seats on the train or restoration is designed as a mini bar are equipped with facilities for karaoke. All of this is deliberately designed to make the passengers as if it was in the hotel goes, so travel with Argo Bromo Anggrek expected to save the cost of accommodation hotel and on arrival at destination in fresh condition.
Since December 2010, the coach of Argo Bromo Anggrek is replaced with a series of Sembrani like a plane and other standard executive class train (K1) because the K9 with the purple striped and white exterior is being renovated at Industri Kereta Api, Madiun, East Java. Currently, Argo Bromo Anggrek has a white exterior and green stripes along the circuit and on the side of its body there is the word 'GO GREEN'. The series is mostly done in Industri Kereta Api, Madiun, and will be ready to adorn the scenery northern island of Java. But in operation, a series of GO GREEN is sometimes problematic and damaged so as to make Argo Bromo Anggrek have low occupancy.
Incident
- In 2005, an Argo Bromo dining car is on fire
- Argo Bromo Anggrek hit Fajar Utama Semarang at 03.00 am in Petarukan Station, Central Java. Coach number 6 and number 9 shattered, 33 people killed and 26 people wounded. The cause of this accident is under investigation.[1]
- On December 16, 2010, Argo Bromo Anggrek hit a student in Dengok Village, Padangan Subdistrict, Bojonegoro, East Java. Three students were killed. [2]
Because of frequent accidents, the train withdrawn for repair and replaced with othe executive class that the majority of train carriages former JS950 and repairs will be completed within the next few months to train a new look.
