Ardara (Irish: Ard an Rátha, meaning "Height of the Fort") is a small town in County Donegal, Ireland, located along the N56 road. The community has a population of 731 (per the 2011 Census). Over recent years the town has seen some great growth with a lot of the pubs and shops being renovated. Some of the main scenic points near the town are the Glengesh Pass, the Maghera Falls and the views out over the Atlantic from Loughros Point.
Culture
In March for the last 10 years the area has hosted a very successful Walking Festival with walkers coming from all over the world, USA, Europe and all over Ireland. All the information on the Festivals of Ardara are available on the town website.[2] The town hosts the annual Cup of Tae Festival, a traditional music festival, each May. Ardara is a popular destination in Ireland with holiday makers.
Buildings of note
- "The Mart", built in 1908, the current home of Donegal Tweed specialists, Triona Design.
- The Nesbitt Arms Hotel, located on The Diamond, is another large building of note in the locality. The hotel was founded in the 1830s.
