Archbishop MacDonald High School is an academic high school in Edmonton, Alberta. It is accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), a non-profit organization based in Geneva, Switzerland whose International Baccalaureate Diploma Program is recognized by leading universities around the world.

Admission

Prospective students must have scored at least 75% in all grade 9 core subjects including English, social studies, mathematics, science, and religion.[1]

Reputation

Archbishop MacDonald is the top academic Catholic high school in the Edmonton school district. It is ranked as the second best academic high school in Edmonton, after Old Strathcona Academic High School, and is also ranked 3rd in all of western Canada.

Extracurricular activities

Archbishop MacDonald has a wide range of extracurricular activities, including afterschool band programs, sports teams, and various clubs. Some of these clubs include Yearbook, Social Justice, Environment, Photography, Ski, The Edge, Anime, Science, LAN, Model UN, and Improv, which competes in both the Canadian Improv Games and Nosebowl competitions.

History

Archbishop MacDonald opened in 1967, the year of Expo '67. The school has been repainted several times, from yellow brick, royal blue (mid 80's) to baby blue (2004), to grey (August 24, 2010).
