Archana Joglekar is an Indian actress and classical dancer who has appeared in numerous Marathi and Hindi films and television serials. Some of her noted films are 'Sansaar' (Hindi), 'Eka Peksha Ek' (Marathi) and 'Anapekshit' (Marathi). She is a renowned Kathak dancer and choreographer. She has learned Kathak from her mother Smt. Asha Joglekar, who is also a noted Kathak danseuse and instructor. In 1963, her mother founded a dance school in Mumbai called Archana Nrityalaya. In 1999, Archana opened a branch of this dance school in New Jersey, US.[1]

Career

Archana started her acting career with a Marathi film " Ardhangi" directed by Rajdutt. She did lead roles in many Marathi movies where she worked with all lead actors like Sachin, Ajinkya Deo. Archana was also dance director of Marathi movie Nivdung in which she was lead actress. The songs of this film are an all-time hit. Archana acted in two Oriya movies in Oriya Cinema named Suna Chadhei and Stree. Archana won Critics Award of Orissa State Govt. for her lead role in Suna Chodhei. Archana acted in many Hindi, Marathi films. She also had the lead role in Bangla film " Jeeban Sangi", Tamil Film " Mogh Mool" which won National Award.

In 1994 Archana began writing and directing. She wrote and directed Marathi TV serial Awaghachi Sansar. In this serial, many well known actors like Vikram Gokhale, Prashant Damle, Mohan Joshi, Savita Prabhune worked under her direction. This serial was very popular.

In 1993, Archana produced,wrote and directed Hindi TV serial Samrajya starring Vikram Gokhale, Neena Joshi, Tom Atter, Urmila Bhat, Anant Jog, Sudhir Pandey, Sudhir Dalvi, and Ashok Samarth (who was introduced in this serial.) This serial was critically acclaimed and was on the top-10 chart.

Since 1999, Archana migrated to USA where she has established her dance academy on the east coast. She has also established SAMVED EXAM BOARD for Indian classical art form for entire North America. She is continuing her art pursuits in USA and also continues to perform Kathak at all the prestigious venues in USA. Archana was invited by Princeton University to teach Kathak consecutively for 3 years. She conducted Lec-Dems of Kathak at Princeton University along with Dr. Sunil Kothari and independently at Duke University. She has had the honor to perform at prestigious Lincoln Center, NY on invitation by Juilliard School.
