Araks Ararat FC was an Armenian football club based in the town of Ararat. The club played in the Armenian Premier League and was previously known as FC Ararat (Ararat) and FC Tsement Ararat. It has won two titles, one under the name of Tsement and the other under the name of Araks.
Club history
The club was founded in 1960 as FC Ararat (Ararat) based in the town of Ararat (Not to be confused with the FC Ararat Yerevan). With the beginning of the first Armenian Championship in 1992, the club was renamed to FC Tsement Ararat. In 1998, Tsement won both the 1998 Championship and the Cup. The following year, Tsement yielded the championship to Shirak by 2 points and actually ended up on the third spot behind Ararat Yerevan. However, the club managed to retain the Cup.
The following year, Tsement was renamed to Araks Ararat. Araks did very well that season and won the 2000 Championship title. After this success, the president of the club Abraham Babayn was unable to finance the club. However, in August 2001, the rights were sold to a new sponsor based in Yerevan and Araks Ararat FC was dissolved.[1]
