The Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) (Burmese: ရခိုင်ဒီမိုကရေစီ အဖွဲ့ချုပ်) is a political party that operated in Rakhine State (Arakan State), Myanmar. The ALD was founded on 27 September 1989, in Yangon, and it was registered with the election commission on 2 October 1989. It received the majority of votes at the Arakan State in the 1990 elections,[2] winning 11 seats.[3]

The ALD was abolished shortly afterwards by then ruling junta State Law and Order Restoration Council (SLORC). ALD leaders went into exile in order to continue their political activities.

On 6 April 2012, the ALD was allowed by the Myanmar Union Election Commission to be established as a political party, as its application complied with the law and rules of the election commission.[4] In November, members of the ALD claimed that they had been threatened by local authorities with the abolition of the party, due to an alleged recruitment membership fraud.[2]

On 17 June 2013, The Rakhine Nationalities Development Party and the Arakan League for Democracy signed an agreement to merge under the name of Rakhine National Party.[5] With the formation of the new party, the Arakan League for Democracy was officially dissolved on 6 March 2014.[6][7][8][9]
