Appellation d'Origine Protégée

Appellation d'Origine Protégée (AOP) is a French language appellation regimen in Europe to designate food with a particular origin. It is part of the Geographical indications and traditional specialities in the European Union system and is used for various agricultural products including wine and cheese. One example of a product containing this designation is Maroilles cheese, which has both AOP (or Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) in English) and AOC classifications, but generally only the AOC classification will be shown.
