Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart? (abbreviated as AWBAH) is the second studio album by American R&B recording artist K. Michelle; it was released on December 9, 2014, by Atlantic Records.[1]
Background
After the release of her first album Rebellious Soul and departure from the hit VH1 reality show Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta and Love & Hip Hop. Pate revealed she's getting her own show, titled K. Michelle: My Life while working on the album's lead single, titled "Love Em All". The trailer for the album was released along with the cover artwork a few hours later.
Singles
The song "Love Em All" was released as the lead single for the album. After that the song "Maybe I Should Call" was available on iTunes when the album was pre-ordered. Soon the single "How Do You Know" Unlocked on iTunes and the song "Going Under". The third single "Something About The Night" was the next song to be released off the album. It has been confirmed via K.Michelle's Twitter that "Hard to Do" will be released as the fourth single.
Critical response
Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart? received positive reviews upon its release. The Washington Post called AWBAH "a great album," stating that K. Michelle "continues to distinguish herself from her reality television peers, who seem to stay in the studio but never release music — let alone good music." [6] Billboard Magazine deemed AWBAH one of 2014's best R&B albums, writing, "There's a serrated ferocity to K. Michelle that sends her songs past saccharine territory and into compelling unstable territory." [3] Complex rated the album 3.5 stars out of 5: "...[W]hile it may have taken her longer than she’d like to make this known, it cannot be denied any longer: K. Michelle is leaps and bounds ahead of many of her peers." [4] Rolling Stone listed AWBAH as one of the top 20 R&B albums of 2014.[5] The Philadelphia Inquirer gave AWBAH 3.5 of our four stars, writing, "...[t]his powerhouse tenor vocalist, pianist, and songwriter also is capable of great tenderness, nuance, and understatement." [7]
Commercial performance
The album debuted at number 6 on the US Billboard 200, number 1 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop and number 1 on the Billboard R&B charts, selling 87,000 copies in the first week. Billboard ranked the album as the best R&B album of 2014.[8] Although it debuted lower than Rebellious Soul (2013), its debut week outsold her previous album's and was the highest selling female R&B debut of 2014. In its second week, the album sold 30,000 copies bringing its sales to around 120,000 copies. In its third week, the album sold 11,000 boosting sales up to 131,000 copies. In its fourth week, album sold around 8,000 bring album sales to 139,000. In its fifth week, the album sold around 6,000 bring the total sales to 145,000 copies.
