Antonio Virgili

Antonio Virgili (Naples, 1957) is an Italian professor, researcher and consultant.

For more than twenty years he has studied human sciences (psychology, neuroscience,[1] sociology,[2] geography,[3] anthropology), social and integrative medicine. He is the Scientific Director of the Italian Institute of Social Sciences and President of the Center for International Studies. Author of numerous articles,[4] essays and books[5] scholar of esoteric,[6] heraldic and symbology studies.[7]

Biography

Graduated in Sociology, with Gino Germani and Augusto Graziani, at the University of Naples "Federico II". He later graduated in Psychological Sciences and Techniques and Clinical Psychology at the University "Guglielmo Marconi" of Rome. He specialized in Social Psychiatry and in Psychotechnics at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Naples "Federico II" and is formed as a Social and Health Educator. He continued his studies at various universities and institutions like the University of Rome "La Sapienza", University of Rome "Tor Vergata", University of Florence, the Diplomatic Institute and at further Italian and foreign centers and earning the title of Medicine Doctor in Alternative Medicine MD (AM) and specialization in Neurosociology. Among others, has expanded his studies at the School for Advanced Studies of the Italian Institute for Philosophical Studies and the Baylor College of Medicine.

Activities

After a period of field research, in 1983 obtained a position as Professor of Social Psychology and Methodology of Social Research at the Higher Institute of Sociology. Already a collaborator at the University of Naples "Federico II", was Chairman for the medical anthropology of the International Council of Integrative Medicine (Australia). He has been among the founding members of the Asian Population Association and the Italian Observatory of Victimology (OIV),[8] whose is the coordinator of the department for "Stress, post-traumatic stress and DAS". He is currently the Scientific Director of the Italian Institute of Social Sciences and the Center of International Studies; Professor of Neurosocial Sexology at UNISED,[9] and professor at the university center UNILUDES (Lugano). Researcher and consultant in social sciences, neurosciences[10][11] and clinical reflexology.[12]

Author of more than fifty essays and science articles, has worked with various newspapers and specialised magazines such as: Africa, Protec, Review of Psychology and Sociology, Ethno Anthropological and Sociological Studies, Mare dei Popoli (of which he was Deputy Director), Journal of Geographical Studies, Antologia Medica, etc. Has given tens of conferences for disseminating science[13] and collaborated with Rotary International,[14] Lions Club International[15] and Kiwanis.

Scholar of history and heraldry, life member of The Society of the Friends of St. George´s,[16] Virgili is also a member of numerous scientific organizations including the Istituto Italiano per l´Africa e l´Oriente; Society for Geographical Studies, New York Academy of Sciences, the American Psychosomatic Society, the Italian Society of Economics Demography and Statistics, European Sociological Association and the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. Chairman of the Culture Commission at LIDU (Italian League for Human Rights)[17] and one of the International Vice Presidents of the Lazarus Union (International NGO).[18] As an artist has exhibit his photos in New York, Paris, Malta, Tokyo, etc.[19]
