Antonio Aloisio (November 11, 1898 – January 28, 1977) was a provincial politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1952 to 1955 and again from 1959 to 1971 sitting with the Social Credit caucus in government both times.
Political career
Aloisio ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature for the first time as a Social Credit candidate in the 1952 Alberta general election. He won a comfortable majority to hold the Athabasca electoral district for his party.[1]
He ran for a second term in the 1955 Alberta general election but was defeated in a hotly contested race by Liberal candidate Richard Hall. Despite leading on the first count Aloisio was defeated on second choice preferences.[2]
Aloisio attempted to re-win his former seat in the 1959 Alberta general election. He defeated Richard Hall by a large majority to bring his seat back under Social Credit control.[3]
Aloisio ran for a third term in office in the 1963 Alberta general election. He faced a strong challenge from provincial Liberal leader Dave Hunter, but managed to hang on to his seat.[4]
Hunter and Aloisio would face each other for the second time in the 1967 Alberta general election. Hunter fell to a distant third place while Aloisio managed to increase his vote to easily win his fourth term in office.[5]
Aloisio retired from the legislature at dissolution in 1971.
