Anthony Marra is an American fiction writer.
Life
Anthony Marra attended high school at the Landon School, and graduated from the University of Southern California with a BA, and the Iowa Writers Workshop with an MFA.[1] In 2009, he attended the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop.[2] He was a 2011–2013 Stegner Fellow at Stanford University.[3] Currently, he teaches at Stanford University as the Jones Lecturer in Fiction. He has lived and studied in Eastern Europe, and now resides in Oakland, CA.
He has contributed pieces to The Atlantic,[4] Narrative Magazine,[5] and MAKE Magazine.[6] In 2010, his short story "Chechnya" won a 2010 Pushcart Prize and the 2010 Narrative Prize. He won a 2012 Whiting Writers' Award.[7]
His debut novel, A Constellation of Vital Phenomena, was published in May 2013 by Hogarth. The novel received the inaugural John Leonard Prize given by the National Book Critics Circle for a first book.[8][9] It also won an Anisfield-Wolf Book Award.[10]
