Anthony Edward Meyer (born June 29, 1961) is an entrepreneur, private investor and philanthropist who also manages a family-run investment management company alongside his father, Edward H. Meyer,[1] retired Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Grey Global Group.

Early life

Meyer was born in New York City, the youngest of two children and only son of Edward H. Meyer and Sandra R. Meyer. He attended The Dalton School and Riverdale Country School ('78). He later graduated in 1982 from Harvard College as a John Harvard Scholar, magna cum laude in economics and then received an MBA with honors from Harvard Business School in 1984.

Investor

Ocean Road Advisors

Meyer currently serves as president of Ocean Road Advisors, Inc.,[2] a privately held "family office" investment management company he founded in 2005 that manages a diversified investment portfolio of public and private securities, hedge funds, real estate and venture capital on behalf of several families. He is also the chairman of privately held Meyer and Co., LLC,[3] a merchant banking firm founded in 2002 and based in New York City with offices in Providence, Rhode Island and Salt Lake City, Utah.

Lazard

From 1994 through 2001, Meyer was a managing director at Lazard Frères & Co. LLC, a leading global, private investment bank, where he was a founding partner of Lazard Frères Real Estate Investors LLC (LFREI), Lazard's real estate investment management affiliate and the firm's largest principal investment business. At LFREI, he served successively as Chief Investment Officer, Chief Operating Officer and President, International, on behalf of the firm's $2.8 billion (equity) real estate private equity business.

Trammell Crow

Prior to joining Lazard, from 1984 to 1993, Meyer was a general partner of Trammell Crow Company, one of the largest diversified real estate companies in the U.S, where he co-founded Trammell Crow Ventures, Crow's investment management affiliate. He later served as Trammell Crow Ventures' chief investment officer and led the $2.6 billion (equity) investment management company's efforts in real estate, private equity and venture capital.

Entrepreneur

Education

As an entrepreneur, in 2007, Meyer founded Graduation Alliance (formerly known as The American Academy),[4] a fully accredited online high school and educational services company. Created as a public-private partnership with the State of Utah's Electronic High School, Graduation Alliance today serves high school-age and adult students who seek to continue and/or supplement their high school education and/or earn a high school diploma. The Company offers a complete suite of accredited educational offerings to students beyond the reach of traditional high schools through its innovative and rapidly growing Dropout Recovery Program™ initiatives,[5] delivered in partnership with more than 80 public high schools districts nationwide. As no public school district is immune to the nation’s dropout epidemic. Graduation Alliance’s innovative Dropout Recovery Program, Nodropouts.org, offers school districts a way to provide a complete high school education to students beyond the reach of traditional programs.

Healthcare

Previously, in 2004, Meyer founded Extend Health.[6][7] a leading provider of health benefits management services and technologies, to enable American corporations, public sector entities and other groups to implement defined contribution healthcare solutions for their active and retired employees. Extend Health today operates the largest private Medicare exchange[8][9] in the United States, creating cost savings for its employer clients and providing its individual customers with improved choice and control over health benefits. In 2011, the Company partnered with Microsoft to build the state health insurance exchanges required under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010. In January, 2012, Extend Health filed with the SEC for its initial public offering; however, in May, 2012, the Company was instead sold to Towers Watson, a leading global professional services company, for $435 million.

Venture Capital and Technology

Meyer has served as the lead investor for numerous early-stage companies, including: Lightt, Inc () "a whole new way to capture and share what you see every day, with your iPhone". Geodigital International (), a world leader in LiDAR and imaging technology; Critical Mention (), a leading provider of television search and monitoring services; and Vacatia (), a marketplace for the vacation ownership industry which launched to great acclaim in September 2013.

Social Entrepreneur and Philanthropist

An active social entrepreneur, Meyer serves as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the City University of New York's William E. Macaulay Honors College, where he also serves as a CUNY Entrepreneur-in-Residence. In addition, Meyer is a member of the Board of Governors of the American Jewish Committee, a Director of Dr. Mehmet Oz's HealthCorps, a member of the World Presidents' Organization (WPO), Co-Founder of NoLabels.org, a Trustee of Geneva-based UN Watch and an advisor to the NYC Department of Education's Innovation Zone initiative.

He has also sponsored new social enterprises such as the Well Program of charity:water,[10] the FDNY Foundation's "Ready Room 24/7 Project", the "Hacking Education" data project of DonorsChoose, the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission's "Taxi of the Future" initiative and the "Across the Aisles" initiative of NoLabels.org.

Meyer is former Chairman of the Board of Literacy Instruction for Texas (L.I.F.T.), former Vice Chairman of The World of Children Award, and a past Board member of the New York City chapter of YPO, the Young Leadership Cabinet of the United Jewish Appeal and The Educational Alliance.

Educator and Public Speaker

He has also guest lectured in real estate, finance and entrepreneurship at numerous institutions including Stanford University, NYU, SMU and CUNY, and is a frequent speaker at conferences and roundtables on the subject of entrepreneurship and social enterprise.

Education

Meyer graduated from Harvard College in 1982 as a John Harvard Scholar, with a magna cum laude degree in Economics, and received his MBA from Harvard Business School with distinction in 1984.
