Anthony Drmic (born February 25, 1992) is an Australian basketball player, currently a senior at Boise State University. While he has represented Australia in international competition, he also holds a Croatian passport. He is a 4 year starter for the Broncos and has led the team in scoring in his first 3 seasons. He played just 7 games of his senior season before being declared out for the season. He is currently awaiting a decision as to whether the NCAA will grant him a 5th year of eligibility. He wears #3 for the Broncos and is considered a borderline NBA prospect.[1]
College career
Drmic attended the Australian Institute of Sport and was recruited to the United States to play at Boise State with teammate Igor Hadziomerovic.[2] As a freshman, Drmic started all 29 games for the Broncos, averaging 12 points per game and set a school record for three-pointers by a freshman (57). At the end of the year, he was named honorable mention All-Mountain West Conference (MWC).[3] As a sophomore in 2012–13 he raised his scoring to 17.7 points per game, leading the Broncos to the 2013 NCAA Tournament in the process. As a junior, he was named second-team All-MWC for the second year in a row, as well as All-District by the United States Basketball Writers Association.[4]
Prior to the start of his senior season, Drmic was named first-team preseason All-MWC.[5] On December 30, 2014, the school announced that Drmic would miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury and would apply for a medical redshirt to play in 2015–16. He was averaging 15.0 points per game at the time.[6]
International career
Drmic competed for Australia at the 2011 FIBA Under-19 World Championship. He averaged 15.4 points per game in the nine matches and helped the Emus to a sixth-place finish.[7] He would later be invited to try out for the senior Boomers squads for the 2012 Olympics and 2014 FIBA World Cup, but did not make either team.
Personal life
Drmic was born in Melbourne, Victoria and is the younger brother of former National Basketball League player Frank Drmic.[8]
