José António Caldas Oliveira (born 1 May 1959 in Braga) is a Portuguese football manager and former player who played as a goalkeeper. He has managed on several occasions his boyhood club of SC Braga's first team, B team and the under 19 team.
Career
As a player he played from 1979 to 1997 for lower league clubs which include Valdevez, Riopele, Vizela, Amarante, Lourosa, Lixa, Paços de Ferreira, Leixões, União da Madeira and Leça.
Caldas began his managerial career with Leixões in which he was manager for two seasons from 1996 to 1998. In 1998 he then moved on to SC Braga U19 for one season and after this spell he was appointed manager of SC Braga B, which he managed for six seasons from 1999 to 2005. He helped launch the career of the current Portugal international goalkeeper Eduardo Carvalho.
In 2005 he left Braga and went on to manage Chaves for two seasons where in his second season the club suffered relegation from the Liga de Honra to Portuguese Second Division. After leaving Chaves he came back to the SC Braga U19 team in 2007.
After the resignation of Manuel Machado due to poor results near the end of the 2007-08 season he was appointed manager of SC Braga until the end of the season where he helped the club qualify for the UEFA Intertoto Cup.
His first managerial abroad was in Angola where he managed Sport Huambo e Benfica from 2010-11. As of 2011 he managed Interclube of the Girabola. In April 2012 he was sacked by Interclube due to a bad start to the season.[1]
