Dame Anne Jane Mills DCMG, CBE, FRS (born 26 January 1951)[1] is a British authority on health economics. She is Vice Director and Professor of Health Economics and Policy at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.[2]

Education

Mills was educated at Aylesbury High School, Oxford High School and St Hilda's College, Oxford. She received her first degree in history and economics from the University of Oxford and also holds a postgraduate diploma in Health Service Studies from Leeds University. Mills received a PhD in health economics from the University of London in 1990.[1]

Research

Mills' major domain of research is on ways of providing efficient and equitable health care in low- and middle-income countries. Her work began in the 1980s in Nepal on the cost-effectiveness of interventions for malaria.[2] She received a Prince Mahidol Award in 2009 in recognition of her contribution to the development of health economics and health systems research in Africa and Asia.[1]

Mills has been Vice-Director London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine since 2011. She became a Foreign Associate of the Institute of Medicine in 2006, President of the International Health Economics Association in 2012 and joined the Board of Health Systems Global the same year. She was elected to a Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2009.[1]

Mills was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (DCMG) in the 2015 New Year Honours for services to international health.[3][4]

Awards

Mills was awarded the Prince Mahidol Award for Medicine in 2009.[1]

Personal life

She is married to Patrick Corran and the couple has two sons.[1]
