Anne Gwynne (born Marguerite Gwynne Trice; December 10, 1918 – March 31, 2003) was an American film actress of the 1940s. Known as one of the first scream queens because of her numerous appearances in horror films, the actress-model was also one of the most popular pin-ups of World War II.

Career

Gwynne was born in Waco, Texas, the daughter of Pearl (née Guinn) and Jefferson Benjamin Trice, an apparel manufacturer.[1] In 1939, she became a model for Catalina Swimwear.[2]

Gwynne was a television pioneer, appearing in TV's first filmed series, Public Prosecutor (1947–48), 26 mysteries each 17½ minutes in running time, produced by Jerry Fairbanks.

When the DuMont Television Network aired the series, they stopped the film before the climax and a live three-member panel would try to guess the identity of the culprit. Other TV stations could buy rights to air this series but usually did not use panelists.[3]

Personal life

Gwynne married Max M. Gilford in 1945. The couple had two children, Gregory and Gwynne, an actress. Gwynne Gilford's children are actress Katherine Pine and actor Chris Pine. Gwynne died March 31, 2003 of a stroke following surgery at the Motion Picture Country Hospital in Woodland Hills, California.
