Anne Davies (British journalist)
Anne Davies is a British television presenter and newsreader, currently presenting BBC East Midlands Today, alongside Dominic Heale. The show comes from Nottingham each weekday night at 6.30pm.
Early life and education
Anne was born in Sutton, Surrey. She attended St Philomena's Catholic High School for Girls in Carshalton, then the Convent Notre Dame School in Cobham. Then to Guildford High School for Girls. When she moved to the Isle of Wight, she attended Carisbrooke College. After A-Levels, Anne went to the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth.
Television and radio
Davies began work for BBC Current Affairs, working behind the scenes on Question Time, Panorama and The Money Programme. She then moved to BBC Radio Leicester and BBC Radio Derby. Then, after training for a year on the ITN News Trainee Scheme, Anne became the regular newsreader for Central News East based in Nottingham. In 1993, Anne fronted the ITV Daytime Programme Look Good Feel Great with Diana Moran (aka The Green Goddess); the environmental series Earthdwellers Guide and produced and presented fashion shows for the ITV network entitled Off The Peg. Anne then moved to GMTV, presenting the first breakfast programme with Eamonn Holmes. After fronting Fridays and Sundays with Holmes, she then read the news during the first hour of the programme from 6–7am, regularly fronted The News Hour and GMTV with Lorraine. During this time she presented her own Christmas Cookery strand and the GMTV House. Anne also presented the interiors show Our House for ITV and the Consumer Show, Fair and Square, for Anglia.
Davies moved back to the East Midlands to work for the BBC in May 2001 and has been presenting East Midlands Today since then. Whilst there she presented five series of the documentary series Inside Out, always fronts Children in Need and helped the programme win two Royal Television Society Award for her coverage of the Madeline McCann story and The Olympic Torch Special from Derby. Davies won an RTS Award for "Best on Screen Personality" in 2012 and has also presented the mid-morning show on BBC Radio Leicester. She lives in Leicestershire,
Outside television
Davies has wrirtten numerous articles for national magazines to include Woman's Weekly, My Weekly and Babycare & Pregnancy. In 1999 and 1991, she appeared at the Drury Lane Theatre in two special celebrity pantomimes for the Duchess of York's charity. She is the voice of the on-board bus announcements for Trent Barton's Indigo service. She recorded her voice for the service in 2008.[1]
She is an after dinner speaker, regular host of award ceremonies and charity events, compering concerts, choir and fashion shows and also Patron of Macmillan Cancer Support for Leicestershire and Rutland and has, with her own committee, raised thousands of pounds for the charity.
Personal life
Davies lives in Leicestershire. She has two children, a passion for food and fashion, loves her dog and regularly trains in the gym.
