Annabelle Huggins

Annabelle Huggins (born 1943) is a Filipino actress during the 60s who started Jack Nicholson in Back Door to Hell and later become famous when she was kidnapped by a jeepney driver named Ruben Ablaza which was made headlines.

Life and Film career

Annabelle was born to American-Filipino father and Filipino mother. She was later raised by her aunt and uncle along with her siblings, wherein her aunt treated her as her own child. In 1958 she dropped out of high school to work in a billiard hall where she met Ruben Ablaza. She later made debut in the movie Adonis Abril (1963) with Nestor De Villa, Back Door to Hell with Jack Nicholson (which was her Hollywood debut) and also Siyam na Buhay ni Martin Pusa (1964) with Joseph Estrada.

Kidnapping

On 22 March 1963, 20-year old Huggins was kidnapped by two men to taxi the third man was Ruben. She also claim that Ablaza raped her multiple times after beating her

Trial

In 1969 Ruben Ablaza claimed that he and Annabelle are a couple. Ablaza and the two men are found guilty for kidnapping and rape of Annabelle Huggins.

Portrayals

Two movies twice made the case in 1963 Ang Mananaggol ni Ruben which Mario Montenegro played Abalaza and Lolita Rodriguez as Huggins. In 1995 Director Carlo J. Caparas made Annabelle Huggins Story - Ruben Ablaza Tragedy: Mea Culpa starting Cesar Montano as Ruben Ablaza and Dawn Zulueta as Annabelle Huggins.
