Biography

Marriage

On 4 December 1611 in Vienna, Matthias and Anna were married. Matthias was already over fifty at the time. Anna was a first cousin of Matthias; his father, Maximilian II, Holy Roman Emperor was an elder brother of Anna's father, Ferdinand II of Austria.

Matthias and Anna had no surviving children.

In 1617 Anna with her husband founded the Capuchin Church, Vienna, which is where they wanted to be buried so Matthias had the Imperial Crypt built. Anna died a year later and was buried there. Three months later, Mattias died and was buried with Anna in the Imperial Crypt.

Most of the Holy Roman Emperors and Empresses have since been buried at the Imperial Crypt.
