About

In 2002, Winger and her husband Joerg Winger moved to Berlin, Germany.[1] Before moving, she lived in New York and her husband lived in Cologne. The two decided that Berlin felt like somewhere in the middle. Her favorite Berlin novels are 'The Wall Jumper' by Peter Schneider and 'Visitation' by Jenny Erpenbeck.[2] Before she started writing, Winger worked as a professional photographer for more than a decade.

Works

'Deutschland 83,' a television drama, is set to broadcast on Sundance TV (USA) in June 2015 and on RTL (Germany) in October 2015. The series, an 8-episode drama, about a young East German spy on an undercover mission to West Germany in 1983, had its world premiere when the first two episodes were shown at the 2015 Berlin Film Festival. It will be the first German-language series ever shown on American television.

Winger's first novel, This Must Be the Place, was published in 2008 by Riverhead Books.

She is currently working on a new novel that takes place in Mexico. She is also developing another television series, set in contemporary Berlin, which deals directly with themes of immigration and integration in modern Europe.
