Angela "Angie" Payne (born November 11, 1984) is an American rock climber who in 2010 became the first woman to climb grade v13 , The Automator at Lower Chaos Canyon in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado.[2]
Biography
Payne was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio.[3] She began indoor climbing at the age of 11 and competed in a number of junior sports climbing competitions.[4] After moving to Boulder to attend college, Payne won three American Bouldering Series National Championships and two Professional Climbers Association competitions in 2003-2004.[5]
In the years 2004-2010, Payne completed the first female ascent of 17 bouldering problems graded v10-v12, leading up to becoming the first female to complete a confirmed v13.[4]
