Anghami

Anghami is the first legal music streaming platform and digital distribution company in the MENA region launched in November 2012[1] providing unlimited Arabic and International music to stream and download for offline mode.

Anghami is designed for the Middle East and North Africa providing the largest music catalog of licensed content from the major Arabic labels such as Rotana, Melody, Mazzika, Platinum Records and many other indies. It also features the international majors EMI, Sony, Warner and Universal. Anghami is the largest digital music venture in the Middle-East seed funded by MEVP.[2]

Anghami, the brainchild of Eddy Maroun and Elie Habib[3] launched as a mobile only app with "The idea is that everywhere you go, you’ll find your music". Born in Lebanon, one of Anghami's app features is Dolby Pulse encoding:[4] "Designed for an optimal combination of quality, efficiency and integrity of content, Dolby Pulse offers smaller file sizes and faster, more reliable media streaming for Anghami’s users — especially in situations where bandwidth may fluctuate".

The main challenge of Anghami since inception was beating music piracy in the Middle East:[5] “Music piracy is huge, so we're banking on the experience and convenience we offer to users to opt for Anghami as a greater alternative to piracy”.

Anghami's rise to fame in the MENA region was fast, partnering with several mobile operators in the first months after launching,[6] eventually reaching the first 1 million users four months later.[7] However, the next million was reached in 3 months mainly after partnering with the major media player MBC Group Middle East Broadcasting Center that featured Anghami in one of its most successful TV shows ' Arab Idol'.[8]
