Angel Escobedo

Angel Escobedo (born January 12, 1987) is an American wrestler who specializes in freestyle wrestling. Escobedo was an NCAA champion, 3-time Big Ten champion, and 4-time All-American in college. Escobedo represented the United States at the 2013 World Wrestling Championships.

Youth career

In high school, Escobedo was a four-time Indiana state champion. He was ranked as the top wrestler in the 135-pound weight class and compiled a 223-1 high school record. Beyond Indiana, Escobedo was the 2002 FILA Cadet Freestyle Champion. He also grew up in Griffith, Indiana.

College career

Escobedo wrestled in college for the Indiana Hoosiers.[1]

International career

At the 2013 World Team Trials Escobedo finished 2nd, but was promoted to compete in the World Championships when Obe Blanc failed a drug test.[5]

At the 2013 World Wrestling Championships Escobedo advanced to the bronze medal match in the 55 kg division.[6] Escobedo ultimately lost in the bronze medal match by one point to Sezar Akgül of Turkey.
