Andy Stack is one of the founding members of the band Wye Oak, from Baltimore, Maryland. Along with his friend Jenn Wasner, they have performed on tour with notable bands such as The National and The Decemberists.[1]
Early life
Stack was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland.[2] By high school, Stack had met Jenn Wasner, and begun playing music together. He pursued music at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, and then completed his degree in recording at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
Music career
When Stack and Wasner returned home to Baltimore, they formed a band under the name "Monarch" in 2006. The name would soon be changed to Wye Oak after the state tree of Maryland.[1] After the release of their highly regarded work, Civilian in 2011, the group toured in the United States and Europe. Civilian was named the best album of 2011 by the A.V. Club, and was featured on television in the popular series The Walking Dead and in the film, Safety Not Guaranteed.
After the Civilian tour, Stack moved to the artist towns of Marfa, Texas, and Portland, Oregon in order to work more in music production for the television and film industry.[1] In 2013, Stack and Wasner reunited to create the next major album Shriek, released in April 2014. Wasner and Stack recently performed at Coachella, and are now on tour for Shriek.[3]
Personal life
Stack lives with his fiancee, a graphic artist and designer, in Marfa, Texas.[1]
