2013–present: Black Bear
For this new job, Belle cited a larger approach to putting his feelings in the songs. According to him, the songs are autobiographical themes through the hard times experienced by him and his wife.[2] The album consists of folk songs with influences from M83, Beach House and Washed Out, he said: "I didn’t want to be stuck in that niche of being just a singer-songwriter, which sort of conjures up ideas of an acoustic guitar and a white kid singing a song. It’s very stereotypical [...] I wanted to make music like they were making."[3] Black Bear was released in August 20, 2013 and relies on the production of Chad Copelin.[3] Andrew stated in an interview with USA Today that he wrote the song 'Pieces' (the first single on Black Bear) for his wife not too long after they got married in Chicago in 2012.[4]
