Andreas Bjelland (born 11 July 1988) is a Danish footballer. He plays at centre back for FC Twente in the Dutch Eredivisie. Bjelland has 20 senior caps for Denmark, as well as a total of 21 youth caps under four different age groups.
A versatile player, Bjelland can also play as a full back and in centre midfielder.
Early life
Andreas Bjelland, born in Vedbæk, to a Norwegian father and a Danish mother. He played for BK Søllerød-Vedbæk during his youth, before moving to Lyngby BK in November 2001, he would go on to appear for their U17 and U19 youth teams.
Bjelland has a younger brother named Thomas (born 1992) who plays for BSV, which is also Andreas' former club.
Senior career
Lyngby
20 September 2006 Bjelland made his senior debut for Lygnby in the Danish Cup. He would make 46 league appearances and score 1 goal for Lyngby.
F.C. Nordsjælland
Bjelland joined neighboring rivals F.C. Nordsjælland in the summer of 2009, quickly establishing himself in the first team. On January 2011, Andreas Bjelland turned down a move to Belgium team Club Brugge, though it is widely expected that he will eventually move to a bigger foreign club in the near future.[1]
FC Twente
6 November 2011 it was announced that Andreas Bjelland had signed a four-year contract with Dutch club FC Twente. He will join the former champions in the summer of 2012.[2]
International career
17 November 2010, Andreas Bjelland made his senior debut for Denmark in a 0–0 draw against the Czech Republic, playing a full 90 minutes. Bjelland was once again called up by manager Morten Olsen for the Euro 2012 qualifiers against Cyprus and Portugal, where he played in both matches on 7 and 11 October 2011, respectively.
6 December 2011, Bjelland was called up for Denmark's tour of Thailand in January.[3]
