Andrés Montoya

Andrés Montoya (May 18, 1968 - May 26, 1999) was a Latino American poet.

Life

He graduated from California State University, Fresno, where he studied with Philip Levine, and from the University of Oregon, with a Master of Fine Arts, where he studied with Garrett Hongo.^[1]

His work appeared in The Santa Clara Review, In the Grove, Bilingual Review/Revista Bilingüe, and Flies, Cockroaches, and Poets.

His father, Malaquias Montoya, teaches at University of California, Davis, and was visiting fellow at the Institute for Latino Studies (ILS) at the University of Notre Dame.

He succumbed to leukemia before production of his book was completed.

The biennial Andrés Montoya Poetry Prize is awarded by the Institute for Latino Studies, at the University of Notre Dame.^[2][3]
