Thakur Anand Mohan Singh is a politician from the village of Panchgachiya, district Saharsa, Bihar, India. He belongs to Tomar Rajput clan. He is the founder of the Bihar People's Party
Biography
Anand Mohan Singh, hails from Panchgachiya village in Saharsa district of Bihar, is a grandson of the great freedom-fighter Ram Bahadur Singh who was known as the "Gandhi of Kosi". He belongs to an upper middle-Class Farmer's family, a family which served for the cause of Freedom and Equality for more than 4 generations. Both his father and grandfather were great freedom fighters. Before entering into Politics, he was a members of the National Cadet Corp (NCC), Bihar and Jharkhand units. Anand Mohan’s folks recall him as a rebel Rajput youth who dropped out of college and joined the JP movement in 1974.
He sprang into limelight after showing black flags to then prime minister Morarji Desai at a public meeting in Saharsa.He rose to fame with the Jayprakash Narayan Movement in 1978 as a young 17 year old leader.He became an MLA under the mentor ship of former Prime Minister of India, late Chandrashekhar Singh.He later founded the party Samajwadi Krantikari Sena which was later changed to Bihar People's Party in 1993Bold text. Mr. Anand Mohan later helped his wife, Smt. Lovely Anand, become MP from Vaishali parliamentary constituency in a historic by-elections in 1994 as a candidate of BPP and ensured her victory. Riding high on this success his Singh's party contested for the state election from all the constituency and marginally lost in all it's believed that the election was rigged by the then ruling party.Later He was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Sheohar constituency in 1996 and 1998.
He is one of those newly risen Rajput strongmen who retaliated during Lalu era, fearing that their traditional caste hierarchy was vanishing. In the year of 1994 he was charged for the case of an IAS officer's death. It is said that Anand Mohan had "provoked" the mob to beat the IAS officer.The police reports say that Singh "exhorted his followers to lynch the official (G. Krishnaigh)". He instigated the mob to beat the IAS officer and then asked his brother to shoot him. He is currently serving Life imprisonment while, according to the facts, the real murderer, Bhutkan Shukla, brother of Chhotan Shukla was let go without any charges levied against him.
The facts of the case also mentions that FIR was lodged against Anand Mohan exactly 25 hours later, over the telephone. The fact of the case also reveals that of the 25 witnesses, 14 were police officials and the photographer, guard, and the driver of the D.M who were the immediate witnesses of the murder were not taken into consideration. There were no proper CBI investigation done. The matter was brought in the light by Lovely Anand in Parliament. Anand Mohan was given death penalty by the Lower Court for "abatement of murder" whereas the death penalty is given in cases of "rarest of rare murders" cases. And thus, the High Court reduced the punishment from death penalty to life imprisonment. Akhlakh Ahmed and Arun Singh who were granted Death Penalty by the lower court along with Anand Mohan in the same the case were acquitted by the High Court raising eyebrows of many, raising a question of a political conspiracy and influence. It is presumed that Mr. Anand Mohan, who was riding high of fame and success and also fighting for his cause against the Government was targeted by a political conspiracy that was plotted against him to bring forth an end to his political career.
He penned two books, 'Quaid mei Azad Kalam' (2012) and 'Swadheen Abhivyakti' (2014) which is compilation of poems that he wrote about his experience in the jail. The books are critically acclaimed by well renowned scholars like, Namwar Singh ( a well renowned Hindi critic, JNU Scholar) and Prof. (Dr.) Subhash Chandra Yadav. Central Board School Examination (C.B.S.E) has added one of his short stories in its 8th Standard Hindi Syllabus in January, 2015 in its book called Madhurika.
