Anaamika / Nee Enge En Anbe is a 2014 Indian thriller film simultaneously made in both Tamil and Telugu language. It is directed by Sekhar Kammula,[2] starring Nayanthara in the lead role.[3] The film is a remake of the Hindi film Kahaani with slight changes in the climax of the plot.[4][5]

Plot

There was a bomb blast in a beach at Chennai before. Anaamika,(Nayantara) an IT professional, comes to Hyderabad in search of her husband. As soon as she enters Hyderabad, she enters the police station and waits to give a complaint. But they could not understand her language and she also couldn't. There was a police in the station, who is a tamilian, named Sarathy, (Vaibhav Reddy), helps her as she was too a tamilian. She gets into the lodge where her husband was staying. She enquires the manager and now, the search begins.

She goes to the place where her husband was planned to come and asks about her husband. She continuously searches her husband and the Inspector there demands Anaamika to have a wrong relationship with him and then she would get her husband. Anaamika thinks and rejects and at the same time when he called Anaamika to the guest house, he is murdered as he knew who was having Anaamika's husband. So, they murder him.

The officer who helps Anaamika in her search is also murdered. The third murder planned was that of Anaamika's as she was getting closer and closer to real consipracy. CBI officer Pasupathy, who was investigating the bomb blast, tells her that her husband closely resembles a terrorist named Milan Damji, who was the main cause for the bomb blast. But she justifies that he was with her when the bomb blast took place. That night, the murderer comes to kill Anaamika, but when the wind blew, the beehive behind him was disturbed. Stung by the bees, he runs away.

Using all clues and confusions, she finds a place where Milan Damji's secret records were placed along with Sarathy. There comes that murderer to take a hard disk from there. When he switches on the computer, Anaamika stands behind him. Sarathy calls her loud and he sees her behind. Sarathy starts chasing the murderer and as it was night, all the 3 were split up into 3 ways. When the murderer takes a turn at a road, he dashes with Anaamika and both fall down. She takes out the gun from his bag immediately and shoots at him. Sarathy informs CBI and tells that he shot at him. Anaamika takes out the hard disk from the murderer's bag that night. She copies all the data to her laptop. Then she digs out the tiles in the floor and places it there. When CBI asks her, she lies. Then a special police group comes and searches her room. They beat her to tell where the hard disk was. She tells nothing was with her, When police asks for her laptop, she gives other one.

She finds the minister's number in the data and calls him. But he switches it off. Then an anonymous call comes and commands her to come to a bridge to get her husband back with a demand to bring that hard disk. She leaves her phone in the room and takes a pen with her. As police was watching her, the manager helps her to get out through a back way. Same as Kahaani here, she wears a saree, which is worn at a religious function there by all ladies. She gets into the crowd and she gets the plate with hard disk placed in religious materials. She places the plate at the feet of the goddess and prays. She takes out the hard disk and goes to the bridge. The CBI sees her ad follows with a police force. When a car comes to the bridge, some men push out her husband from the car and ask for the hard disk. She gives a thing and when they move away, the police starts to attack them and the car gets crushed.

Anaamika takes him to the cemetery at the beach where the bomb blast took. She tells to light candles for those who died there. Actually, her husband was a terrorist and Sarathy flies there with CBI to save her from him before he kills her. She tells him that you are a merciless fellow and when he takes a gun to shoot her, she opens the pen and it wasn't a pen, it was a knife inside. She cut off his neck and took his gun and shot at him. As police comes, she runs away, leaving the pen's lid and returns. Pasupathy finds that before police and CBI, Anaamika has found out early that her husband was a terrorist. So, he doesn't chase her and the problem was solved.

Anaamika knows that her husband was a terrorist through an incident. When her friend goes for a trip to Delhi, she finds him and starts to talk with him. But he shoots at her and ran away. This matter reached Anaamika and so she came here, searched him, killed him and made those dead souls to satisfy.

Nayantara with an all new look, kick-started her Sekhar Kammula bilingual in Telugu and Tamil on April 28 in Hyderabad. Initially for the female lead, the director approached actress Anushka Shetty, but later Anushka Shetty opted out because her magnum opus projects dates directly clash with this film.[6] Nayantara was given a bounded script with the look of her costume was given. She has an all new look in the film and the actress has given bulk dates for the film. Her character name is Anamika. The film is being co-produced by Endemol India, Logline Productions and Select Media Holdings.[7]

The shoot on Sunday in the dusty streets of Old City, Hyderabad. Instead of Kolkata in the original, Sekhar chose Old City where the film will be set.[8]

Sekhar was planning to complete the project under 50 days by shooting continuously in old Hyderabad. Sekhar in an interview had said: “Since this untitled film is a bilingual, there`s lot of work involved even before we start shooting. I want to shift all focus on the project which will be adapted and customised to the local sensibilities.” [9][10]

Critical Reception

Nee enge en anbe was rated 3 by Rediff who said that "Kahaani was a huge hit so much was expected of the remake. Unfortunately, Nee Enge En Anbe is not in the same league". Deccan Chronicle said that "For those who have not seen Kahaani, this is a perfect 10 on 10 movie and for those who have, well all we can say is it is one of the better remakes".[11] Sifi gave 4/5, stating " Nee Enge En Anbe on the face of it is a decent thriller, marked by an outstanding performance by Nayanthara, who is scintillating as she brings depth and poise to her character. Plus technically it is fab, with excellent background score by MM Keeravani which is in sync with the theme of the film along with camera work of Vijay C Kumar."[12] Hindustan Times said "Nee Enge En Anbe’s plot and narrative style gripped me as much as Kahaani’s did. The Tamil movie is mounted well, and although it is not a nail-biting thriller, it is still very engaging. I did not find a dull moment, thanks also to some smart" and gave 3 out of 5 [13]
