Amjad Bobby (Urdu: امجد بوبی) (died 2005) was an acclaimed Pakistani music composer of Urdu music.

He was born in Amritsar. His father wanted him to be a clerk but he preferred to become a composer. His first film as a music director was Aik Nagina(1969) and the song "Dil nahi toe koi sheesha koi pathar hi miley" in Ahmed Rushdi's voice gained him recognition.

Awards and recognition

He achieved Nigar Awards for Bobby, Mushkil, Sangam, Ghunghat, Deewane Tere Pyar Ke, Ghar Kab Ao Ge, Tere Pyar Mein and Yeh Dil Aap Ka Huwa. He also achieved the Bolan Award for best Music Composer for Mujhey Jeene Do.

Work with singers

He has worked with singers from both Pakistan and India. He composed music for Ahmed Rushdi, Salma Agha, Akhlaq Ahmed, Ghulam Abbas Khan, A Nayyar, Waris Baig, Shazia Manzoor, Humera Channa, Arshad Mehmood, Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik, Sonu Nigam, Kavita, Jaspinder Narula and Ahmed Jahanzeb.

Special appearances

It is interesting to note that at the Nigar Awards presentation, he sang a song from his movie Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. The song was originally sung by Arshad Mehmood, but due to his busy schedule he could not come so Amjad Bobby sang in his place. He also sings a song in Javed Sheikh's movie Mushkil, and he has performed this song on stage several times.

Death

Amjad Bobby died of cardiac arrest on 15 April 2005 in Lahore. His death is the biggest loss for Pakistani film music because Bobby was the only composer to have revived Urdu music in Lollywood from 1980 to 1990.
