Amitov Teja (born November 16, 1995) is an Indian actor and screenwriter. He is the eldest son of Teja (film director), a very popular Indian film cinematographer turned director, predominant in Telugu and Hindi cinema.[2] Amitov made his first screen appearance at the age of four in a cameo role in his father's directorial debut Chitram in the year 2000.[1]

Life and career

Early life

Amitov was born on 16 November 1995 in Mumbai.[3] He spent the first two years of his life in Mumbai, where his father worked as a cinematographer and director for many major Bollywood motion pictures. The family later relocated to Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh in 1997.[4]

Amitov made his first screen appearance at the age of four in a cameo role in the Telugu motion picture Chitram in 2000.[5]

Amitov attended Oakridge International School, in central Hyderabad.[6] After graduation from high school,[7] Amitov attended Bachelor of Arts - Film & Television Production program at University of Southern California, School of Cinematic Arts. He dropped out after the first semester and moved to New York to pursue a career in acting.[8]

Personal Life

The younger son of Teja, Amitov's three-year-old brother Aurov Teja, died of prolonged illness in Hyderabad on Saturday, 19 March 2011. [9]Aurov had been suffering from breathing problems and cerebral palsy, caused by faulty medical procedures followed by the hospital at the time of birth.[10] [11]Although no official press statement was given, most media channels and newspapers blamed Rainbow Hospitals[12] for the same.[13] The baby was taken to Bejing, China, New York, United States and Berlin, Germany for medical treatment.[14] On 19 March 2011, the baby's condition deteriorated and was pronounced dead at 1:00PM IST. Teja's family completed the last rites of the baby in Panjagutta crematorium. Members of film industry consoled Teja and expressed their condolences to his family for the loss of the baby boy.

Trespass charges

Criminal cases were registered against the Teja family for allegedly trespassing into the house of film producer Chadalavada Srinivasa Rao.[15]According to the police, Srinivasa Rao, had bought an independent house belonging to Srivalli Teja at Plot No. 1363, on Road No. 45, Jubilee Hills for rupees fifteen crores (150 million) . Chadalavada made an initial payment of rupees three crores (30 million). [16] An agreement was made to this effect and a sale deed executed in favour of Srinivasa Rao. But Rao had been evading payment of the balance amount of rupees twelve crores, police said. Soon after the agreement, Teja vacated the house and Rao took possession of it.[17] Though Rao was not residing there he engaged a watchman to guard the premises.[18] Jubilee Hills police inspector K Narsing Rao said ``According to the complaint lodged by Srinivasa Rao, Teja forcibly drove the watchman out and took possession of the house’’.[19]

``Last night, around 11 pm, hundreds of goons barged into my house.[20] They forcibly occupied it and are refusing to vacate it. They were sent by Teja,’’ Srinivasa Rao told Express.[21] He also alleged that Home Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy was supporting Teja and that the police slept over his complaint last night. ``Teja claims that Srinivasa Rao has to pay him the balance twelve crores,’’ the inspector said.[22]

Teja later met the press and released copies of sale deed, sale agreement, GPA and others, and stated he was the sole and only owner of the house, and no agreement was made with Rao. The Teja family is currently residing in this house.[23]

Amitov Teja and mother Srivalli Teja, who were the fourth and fifth accused were removed from the charge sheet, on 6th June 2012.[24]

CID Investigations

When allegations surfaced, the Criminal Investigation had summoned the Teja family and questioned them about the issue. In an official press statement the family said they met CID officials a second time but the officials reportedly said there was no need to question them further. "If I am called again, I will certainly cooperate with the investigating agency," Teja said. The investigation was eventually stopped after no evidence was found.[25]

Acquittal from all criminal charges

Multiple criminal charges against the Teja family were struck down by Nampally criminal court on Wednesday, 25 April 2012.[26] The Judge said the house grabbing, trespass charges, links with anti-social elements were all bogus, he gave a judgement greatly in favour of the accused. The entire judgement paper was procured and published by Sakshi, a Telugu new channel.[27] All Criminal Investigation Department inquiries were shut down.[28]
